Amazing Grace Connections
Our Story
Amazing Grace Connections grew from witnessing simple acts of kindness and seeing how one act of service can inspire another.
Years ago, our founder, Sylvia Garcia, had experiences in which she needed police assistance involving a loved one. During those interactions, she noticed officers carrying bottled water, protein bars, and other basic necessities in their patrol vehicles to offer to people they encountered who needed them.
At the time, Sylvia learned that some officers were purchasing these items with their own money. Today, funding is available for these types of supplies, so officers do not have to personally purchase them. But witnessing those acts of generosity left a lasting impression.
It inspired an idea: find another way to support that spirit of giving while creating positive connections between law enforcement and the community.

A Christmas Tradition Begins
n 2019, that idea became Christmas stockings.
Stockings were prepared and given to local police officers to distribute to children they encountered in the community during the holiday season. The tradition continued from 2019 through 2021.
Then another connection helped the project grow.
In 2022, someone suggested partnering with Casa Pacifica. That suggestion developed into an ongoing collaboration that brought together Casa Pacifica, the Camarillo Police Department, and the community to provide Christmas stockings to local children and youth.
What began as a simple way to support the spirit of giving had grown into a lasting community partnership.
In 2026, the Christmas Stocking Program enters its eighth year working with local law enforcement and its fifth year partnering with Casa Pacifica.
Becoming Amazing Grace Connections
As the Christmas Stocking Program continued to grow, so did the vision behind it.
In 2024, Amazing Grace Connections was formally established as a nonprofit organization to provide a home for the growing Christmas Stocking Program and a foundation for future community-based work.
Although Amazing Grace Connections is a relatively young nonprofit, the relationships and community work behind it have been developing for years.
Today, the Christmas Stocking Program brings together Amazing Grace Connections, Casa Pacifica, the Camarillo Police Department, donors, volunteers, businesses, and community members around a shared purpose: serving local children and youth while strengthening connections within our community.
The Meaning Behind Our Name
The name Amazing Grace Connections reflects both something deeply personal and the faith that guides our work.
Grace Has Two Meanings
The first is Gracie, the mother of our founder, Sylvia Garcia.
Throughout her life, Gracie has advocated for others. Her example of caring for people, speaking up for those who need a voice, and helping others has inspired Sylvia’s own commitment to advocacy and service.
The second is God’s grace.
Amazing Grace Connections is a faith-based nonprofit rooted in Catholic principles of human dignity, compassion, service, and care for people who are poor, vulnerable, or in need.
Our Catholic faith reminds us of the importance of recognizing our own God-given dignity, deepening our connection with the God who created us, and extending that love and dignity to others.

And Then There Are the Connections
We believe in strengthening our connections with ourselves, with God, with one another, and with our community.
The history of the Christmas Stocking Program is itself a story of connections.
An act of kindness was noticed.
That kindness inspired an idea.
The idea became Christmas stockings.
Someone suggested Casa Pacifica.
A partnership formed.
Community members stepped forward to help.
And eventually, Amazing Grace Connections was born.
One connection led to another.
That continues to guide our work today. We seek to recognize the good already happening around us and connect people, ideas, organizations, and resources in ways that allow that good to grow.
People. Community. Hope.
We believe stronger communities are built through relationships—by seeing the dignity in ourselves and others, listening to one another, recognizing needs, and choosing to respond with compassion.
What began with witnessing a few simple acts of generosity has grown into an eight-year Christmas tradition, a lasting community partnership, and a nonprofit organization with room to grow.
As Amazing Grace Connections looks toward the future, our foundation remains the same:
Faith. Service. Compassion. Advocacy. Connection.
